Based on Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name. Founded in 1919, KLM indeed has a rich history. A history tied with the Boeing 747 "Jumbo Jet".

Shortly after the delivery of its first Boeing 747 in the early 1970s, KLM made a brand refurbishment with their first "blue-top" livery. They had this slogan in the 1980s:" -I always wondered why KLM planes are the colour of the sky. -Being the world's first airline, they had the first choice". Over the years, the iconic "blue-top" livery has made KLM probably the most easily recognisable airline in the sky.

KLM is not only the first European airline to introduce the Boeing 747-400, but also a major operator of the 747 combi models with the an extra cargo door at the main deck of the rear fuselage. To distinguish with the standard cargo version, these models were coded with "M" as for "mixed" instead of "C". KLM have operated seven Boeing 747-206BMs, three Boeing 747-306Ms and seventeen Boeing 747-406Ms to deliver more goods like tulips bulbs to the world.

On August 3, 1999, the Boeing 747-406M MSN 28460 took its first flight at Everett with four GE CF6-80C2B1F engines. It was then delivered as PH-BFV "City of Vancouver" on August 16, 1999 in a C35W36Y197/Cargo cabin config- uration. In its career serving as a KLM flagship of 21 years, PH-BFV shuttled tens of millions of travellers mainly between Amsterdam and North American destinations like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Houston, Mexico City as well as Asian destinations including Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo. Occasionally it also lands at Toronto, Montreal, Las Vegas, Singa- pore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Sydney, Nairobi, Hamburg and Helsinki. But the most famous destination of a KLM Boeing 747 will always be Princess Juliana in Sint Maarten where the jumbo lands right above the tourists on the beach and blow everything away taking off.

On March 22, 2020, PH-BFV operated its last passenger flight KL686 Mexico City to Amsterdam. Although the passenger service of the entire KLM Boeing 747 fleet was shut down during the global pandemic, PH-BFV remained active transporting supplies against the pandemic. On October 25, 2020, PH-BFV operated its final charter flight flying from Shanghai to Amsterdam as KL894, and was then stored for a couple of months. On March 15, 2021, PH-BFV had the special honor to operator the farewell flight KL747 as the very last pax Boeing 747 in the KLM fleet and the very last pax Boeing 747 to leave Amster- dam. After 109,732 airborne hours and 12,134 flight cycles as a proud Flying Dutchman, the 21-year-old airliner was ferried to Teruel for storage and scrap.

Most of the times the story ends this way. But BFV had a second chance. Instead of being scrapped, it was delivered to Longtail Aviation on June 16, 2021 as VQ-BWM and then transferred to JetOneX on February 5, 2022 after being restored from storage. Based at Maastricht, the Netherlands, the airliner started cargo operations to Hong Kong, Seoul, Ho Chi Minh City and New York. On May 8, 2022, VQ-BWM was withdrawn from use again due to the decend of the damand of cargo transport, it was ferried from Maastricht to London Stansted as LGT252P that day. Unluckily, it never have another chance to take off and eventually met the axe in June 2024.

We acquired some skins from this airframe during the scrapping process, but we held the program and wait until we are fully capable of making this amazing edition of Airlinertags.
